Visiting : Lourdes, Gavarnie, Pont d’Espagne, St Jean de Luz and Col d’Ibardin
Saturday 19th April
We meet at the airport at 3.15am for check in. At 5.45am, we depart on a Ryanair flight arriving at Lourdes airoort at 8.15am. From here we depart by private coach to our hotel in Lourdes. We visit the Grotto of Massabielle where our Lady appeared to Santa Bernardette Soubirous. We also visit the three Basilicas and take a memorable photo together as a group. Afterwards we have lunch at the hotel and check into rooms. Some free time where one can rest or visit the numerous shops in Lourdes selling souvenirs etc. Dinner at hotel and in the evening one can attend the Easter Vigil.
Sunday 20th April – Easter
Breakfast and we then take part in the International Mass which is held in the underground Basilica dedicated to St Pius X, and here we celebrate the Easter Mass. Lunch at hotel and afterwards we will have an optional excursion to Pont d’Espagne which forms part of the Pyrenees National Park. During this excursion on the mountains, one can marvel at the beauty of the many waterfalls with the water coming down in high velocity. Dinner at hotel and at 9.00am we will participate in the procession of the Aux Flambeaux which starts from the Grotto and finished in the square in front of the Rosary Basilica. During this process, the pilgrims will walk behind the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes holding a candle whilst reciting the Rosary.
Monday 21st April
Breakfast followed by mass in one of the chapels within the Sanctuary. Together with the tour leader, we then take a walk around Lourdes, and where possible, visit various places of interested connected with Santa Bernardette, amongst which the Boly Windmill (where she was born and lived up to 10yrs), the Cachot (an abandoned prison where she lived during the Apparitions) and the Parish Church dedicated to Sacred Heart of Jesus. Lunch at the hotel followed by an optional excursion to Gavarnie, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Gavarnie is a little village nestled in the mountains, standing at a height of 1357m above sea level. We will also make a stop at Pont du Napoleon to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Dinner at hotel.
Tuesday 22nd April
Breakfast and today we offer you a full day optional excursion to St Jean de Luz and Col d’Ibardin. In St Jean de Luz, a very popular cosmopolitan city, we visit the pedestrian historic centre and the church of St John the Baptist. Some free time where one can stroll along the sandy beach, or else have lunch (extra) in one of the numerous restaurants specializing in seafood. We then go to Col d’Ibardin on a hill and admire the beautiful scenery and have some free time for shopping. Evening dinner at hotel.
Wednesday 23rd April
Breakfast and mass. We can then participate as a group in the Via Crucis.. Lunch at hotel and some free time until at 3.30pm we depart by coach to Lourdes airport for the Ryanair flight departing at 5.55pm and arriving in Malta at 8.20pm.
